Curriculum
Why a Christian Curriculum?
Jesus is Lord of all Life, not just the "spiritual" aspect. Therefore, the Christian religion should permeate the whole curriculum: science, spelling, physical education, etc. Holy Scripture teaches to "train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Martin Luther said, "Where the Scripture does not rule, I certainly advise no one to send his child. Everyone not unceasingly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt." Resources alone do not provide a Christian curriculum but rather a Christian teacher and how he/she uses and applies those resources.
Bible as Base
"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the Word of Truth." (II Timothy 2:5) The principle textbook at Faith Lutheran School is the Bible, which is the rule and norm for life. Daily religion lessons teach the children Bible stories and doctrines of the Christian faith. Bible memorization is included.
Textbooks
Religion classes use the Christ Light series from Northwestern Publishing House and the Bible for Christian Doctrine classes. For all the other subjects, the staff revises the objectives for the individual subjects on a six-year revolving schedule and then chooses the resources and texts that will best serve to help us reach those objectives. Bob Jones University Press, A Beka Book, Saxon Math, Shurley Grammar, Harcourt, Inc. and McGraw-Hill have been popular resources. Teachers supplement the basic text with additional resources and materials from various publishers. Non-consumable school books must have protective covers placed on them. Parents will be required to pay for lost or damaged school-owned textbooks.
